RAASPHON (ETHEPHON)

alt text ETHEPHON is a plant growth regulator used widely on horticultural and agronomic crops, may reduce lodging and enhance yield.. Its use varies with plant species, chemical concentration, and time of application. Ethephon controls various physiological aspects of growth and development in plants. The chemical name of Ethephon is 2-Chloroethyl phosphonic acid. On spraying Ethephon liberates Ethylene a natural plant hormone. Ethephon helps in inducing of flowering and breaking alternate bearing in Mangoes, stimulates uniform ripening in Apples, Grapes, Pineapple, Bananas, Tomatoes, Coffee, Cotton, Cardamom, Paddy and in many fruits, and helps in breaking seed dormancy in Groundnut, Sun flower and other vegetable & ornamentals. Ethephon application is an important agro technology from grower’s point of view due to its multiple benefits. It is an eco-friendly chemical and has tremendous potential to augment yield and productivity.

RAASPHON is a versatile plant growth regulator which improves colouration and accelerates uniform ripening of fruits like pineapple, mango, tomato, etc. It can be deployed in specific uses like defoliation in pomegranate and breaking alternate bearing in mango.

Rubber: March, August, September, November (four applications) brushing once in two months on the tapping cut of the bark
Pineapple (for flower induction): 30-37 leaf stage or 10-12 months. One spray is required
Mango (for breaking alternate bearing tendencies): First spray in mid-October or early November total 5 spray at fortnightly interval
Mango (for flower induction): Commencing from early November total 5 sprays at weekly interval
Mango (post-harvest treatment): Dip mature fruits in the solution for uniform ripening. One treatment is required
Coffee (Arabica& Robusta): For uniform ripening of berries, one spray at fly picking stage when 10-15% of berries have ripened
Tomato (post-harvest treatment): Post-harvest treatment can be done by dipping once

SUGARCANE

The optimum time for harvest would be between 6 to 12 weeks after spraying. This treatment can also help in preventing flowering. Sugarcane setts dipped in Ethephon 250 ppm solution for 5 minutes, before planting stimulates uniform germination of setts. To improve tillering spray 250 ppm after 2 and half month old crop with Ethephon.
